Strategic Tax Advisory

strategy

Decisions about how and when you pay yourself, made early enough to change what you owe.

Tax planning, salary and dividend decisions, timing and structure.

Who this is for

You have income from more than one source, or a business that has outgrown the way it was set up. Maybe you are about to sell something, buy something, incorporate, hire, or retire — and you want to know the tax consequence before you commit rather than the following April.

What's included

  • A tax strategy built around your actual situation, not a template
  • Planning across the whole year for individuals and corporations
  • Salary, dividend and distribution decisions modelled before you take them
  • Tax optimization within what the Income Tax Act allows — no aggressive positions
  • Risk review: what in your current arrangement would be difficult to defend

Common situations

  • You are about to sell a property, a practice, or a share of a business, and want to know the tax consequence before you sign.

  • Your income has grown enough that the way you are set up no longer matches what you earn.

  • You are deciding whether to bring a spouse or family member into the business, and want the tax and the risk laid out side by side.

What I'll need from you

  • Your last two years of filed returns, personal and corporate
  • Current financial statements or bookkeeping file
  • A description of what you are planning or considering
  • Any CRA correspondence you have received

How this works

  1. 01 Tell me what you need A short call or a message. Describe your situation in your own words.
  2. 02 We review your situation together I look at your previous returns, records and any letters from the CRA, then tell you plainly what is involved.
  3. 03 You receive a quote in writing What needs doing, in what order and by when, with the fee set out clearly and agreed before any work begins.
  4. 04 We complete the work Prepared, filed and explained, with me available for the questions that come afterwards.

Questions

  • When is the right time to talk about planning?

Before the transaction, not after it. Once a year has closed, the options are mostly gone — planning is the part that happens while decisions are still open. If you are considering something in the next six months, that is the right time.

  • Is this different from having my return prepared?

Yes. Preparing a return records what already happened. Planning changes what happens. Many clients use both: planning through the year, and filing at the end of it.

  • Do you work with clients outside Vancouver?

Yes. I work with clients across Canada. Consultations are by phone or video, and you send your documents through a secure client portal.

Not sure where to start?

The first consultation is free. Tell me your situation, and I'll tell you what is involved.
