Questions
-
When do I have to register for GST/HST?
When your worldwide taxable revenue exceeds $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters, you are no longer a small supplier and registration becomes mandatory. Registering voluntarily before that can be worth it if you have significant input tax credits.
-
Do I need PST as well as GST?
They are separate. GST is federal; PST is provincial and depends on what you sell in British Columbia. Some businesses need both, some only one, and some neither.
-
How often do I file GST/HST?
Annually, quarterly or monthly, depending on your revenue and what you elected. The filing frequency also sets when instalments are due, so it is worth choosing rather than accepting the default.
